Highlight of the week …
I do apologize for missing our weekly shouts, but I think this week we owe it to non other than …..
Cait Henck, President of Mary Baldwin College’s SOULS group. At just 20 years old, Cait, along with her crew Cierra Glasscho and Jessi Dunnivan, put together the college’s first EVER Drag Show in order to raise profits for ROSMY, a non profit organization in Richmond that focuses on providing resources for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth.
Featuring student performers who wanted to have some fun, and three beautiful queens, the night was by far one of the most exciting events, EVER!
Take a look at some of the wonderful photography done by Adriana Biberaj, another student at MBC.
Congrats Cait …. it was amazing …..
Wordplay Wednesday: Asher Roth
I know it’s been a while but I could not and would not forget about WORDPLAY WEDNESDAY!!! Hopefully you all didn’t forget about it either
. This week I chose a spoken word piece by Asher Roth. Idk if you’ve heard any of his mixtapes, but that’s how I became acquainted with this specific piece. Do what the title says, and just listen
Thank God it’s FRIDAY!!!
If you’re anything like me, then you have certain songs that describe your mood. Regardless of what happened between last Saturday and Thursday night, when Friday morning comes around I am HYPE and this is my favorite song to play on Friday… The album this is from might be my favorite R. Kelly album, along with Chocolate Factory…Enjoy, and TGIF! ![]()
The Science of Hangovers!!!

As if college students didn’t already know it, a Catholic University chemistry professor did a lecture on the chemistry of alcohol and hangovers! Check it out
Young black males ARE getting into college!

If anyone tells you that young black males aren’t getting into college anymore, but sure to mention the ENTIRE Senior class of Chicago’s Urban Prep Academy for Men!

Self-actualization
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be. This need we may call self actualization…It refers to man’s desire for self-fulfillment, namely to the tendency of him to become actually in what he is potentially: to become everything that one is capable of becoming.

Wordplay Wednesday: Michele (@ShezSoGay)
One of the best things about Twitter is that it allows you to stalk and follow the every move of those you lust after showcase your talent, which is how I became acquainted with this lovely lady’s YouTube page. While everyone (in theory) might be able to write poetry, not as many people have a potent delivery, or can articulate their emotions for that matter. But enough of me rambling, watch this particular video entitled “ILoveYou” and become a believer.
The passion of Weezy?

It’s a hard knock life for Lil Wayne. As if his current jail sentence wasn’t bad enough, it looks like as soon as he gets out of Rikers, he’ll be going back in for a failure to appear in court warrant that he got in Arizona. You remember what happened in Arizona right? Weezy’s tour bus got searched and they found weed, cocaine, ecstasy and a handgun. Seeing as how Weezy could not appear in court in Arizona because he’s dropping the soap in jail, his lawyer asked for a 12 month delay. The judge denied that, pushed his bond from $10,000 to $150,000 (I’m sure Goblin like Weezy can afford it right?) and issued the warrant.
Weekly Shoutouts …
Each week, God willing, The K.O.pe would like to “shout out” a local, or somewhat local, artist, poet, photographer, etc. We’ve got to get our people known!
This week, let’s give a round of applause to LaKaye Mbah. Miss Mbah is a photographer based in Baltimore, Maryland. With over a decade of photography experience, her photos have touched the hearts of many, and her work is truly one of a kind. Her photography has been featured in Urbanite magazine, Renovating Woman Magazine, Baltimore CityPaper, and Baltimore.Metromix.com.
Along with her many accomplishments, she also published Soulstice Cit Magazine, an arts and entertainment publication. You can view some of her work on her blog, established in 2009 at: www.lakayembah.com
The K.O.pe is proud to present such a talented black woman.
A picture is worth 1,000 words, and each day, you create millions. Best wishes on all of your future endeavors.
